Characterization of sonochemically prepared proteinaceous microspheres
نویسنده
چکیده
Aqueous suspensions of albumin and haemoglobin microspheres can be synthesized using high-intensity ultrasound. The particle size distributions are Gaussian with mean diameters of a few micrometers. These microspheres can contain either nonaqueous liquids (i.e. microcapsules) or air (i.e. microbubbles). The chemical processes involved in the synthesis and some physical properties of the microspheres have been elucidated. Yields and size distributions of albumin microbubbles as a function of experimental parameters indicate that the microspheres are held together primarily by disulphide cross-linking of cysteine residues between protein molecules. The primary oxidizing agent is superoxide (HO2), which is generated from water and oxygen during acoustic cavitation. Physically, the protein within the microsphere shell is not significantly denatured; the heme held within haemoglobin, for example, is fully retained. Optical, scanning electron, and transmission electron microscopy reveals spherical particles with diameters between 1 and 3/~m, and an approximate shell thickness of roughly 30 nm.

Microspheres of mixed proteins.
This paper describes the synthesis of mixed proteinaceous microspheres (MPMs) by the sonochemical method. The current fundamental research follows the research of Suslick and co-workers who have developed a method by which high-intensity ultrasound is used to make aqueous suspensions of proteinaceous microcapsules filled with water-insoluble liquids.1 By using high-intensity ultrasound, we have...
متن کاملIn vivo measurement of oxygen concentration using sonochemically synthesized microspheres.
Proteinaceous microspheres filled with nitroxides dissolved in an organic liquid have been synthesized for the first time using high intensity ultrasound; these were used to measure oxygen concentrations in living biological systems. The microspheres have an average size of 2.5 microns, and the proteinaceous shell is permeable to oxygen. Encapsulation of the nitroxides into the microsphere grea...
متن کاملFragrance release profile from sonochemically prepared protein microsphere containers.
Protein microspheres have been prepared by sonicating a mixture of pure fragrant oil (amyl acetate (AA)) with an aqueous protein (bovine serum albumin) solution. The prepared protein spheres are nano- to micrometer sized with an encapsulation efficiency of approx. 97% for the AA present on the surface and inside the BSA capsule. Containers were found stable for more than 6 months when stored se...
متن کاملEncapsulation and release of aqueous components from sonochemically produced protein microspheres.
Aqueous solutions of salts or dyes have been contained in sonochemically produced lysozyme microspheres by encapsulating an inverse emulsion in tetradecane. Release can be triggered by chemically disrupting crosslinking in the protein shell or by mechanical disruption using high intensity ultrasound.

The purpose of this study was to prepare and characterize microspheres loaded by cyclosporine A(CyA)-cyclodextrin (CD) complex. To achieve this goal, PLGA microspheres loaded by CyA CD complex were prepared by multiple emulsificationsolvent evaporation methods.Morphology, size, encapsulation efficiency and drug release from these microspheres were evaluated. Microscopic evaluation of mi...
